Marketing Funnel : The Ultimate 9 stage funnel for your business.

Proper planning is required to run a business as an entrepreneur.

It’s the 21st Century and doing business has drastically changed.

According to research around 40% of people don’t know how to build a marketing funnel.

96% of visitors on your website aren’t interested in buying anything from you unless they go through an actual sales funnel process.

A study from Google says that 89% of B2B researchers use the internet during their marketing process and 81% of B2C shoppers do the same.

Why am I laying down all these marketing statistics?

These statistics are to tell you the importance of Sales Funnels or Marketing Funnels.

Marketing your business online is no rocket science.

People have been executing sales funnels for a long time now and not everyone is successful in doing so.

So what makes a successful marketing funnel?

Before going into the process of a funnel I want to give you an example of 2 marketers

Ram and Sham are two shop keepers.

Both are tailors, Ram is working in this field for 10 years and has a large customer base.

Sham has recently opened his store and is confused about how to get customers.

Both of the tailors are located in the same locality.

Geeta prefers going to Ram whenever she wants to stitch her clothes and this relationship is built over trust and consistent services provided by Ram.

Sham is new in this field and wants to make people aware of his store which is just like Ram.

So you see Geeta has a long term relation with Ram as his tailor.

Let’s see how Sham attracts his customer’s from scratch in this process.

Sham thought of an idea to go through a marketing funnel for this business.

Let’s see what plan he has in mind for growing his business.

Stage 1: Brand Awareness and Attention

poster-brand-awareness Sham first thought about making people aware of his new shop. He made posters and spread it across his locality and nearby buildings.

He also put a hoarding outside his shop about the experience and services he could provide to the customer.

He gained people’s attention as the newbie in town who could provide services just like Ram did.

Here Sham made people aware of what he could do for his potential customers.

In Online Market, instead of waiting for the consumer to come to you to place your first order or buy a product from you, you need to make them aware of the advantage of your product or service.

Give the consumer the free knowledge that he/she requires.

Target the pain points of the customer in this first step in order to gain their attention.

For example, if you are offering information products such as an E-Book you can write a free blog about it and promote it on various social media platforms like Instagram, Quora, and Twitter.

Stage 2: First Interaction

After making the people aware about the services he offered in his shop, he then got a few people to come and ask about his services and prices.

Sham showed how he could help them.

In the Online World, The likes and comments also follow that you get are the first interaction from your potential customers.

For Example, If I posted a great informational post on my Instagram feed about opportunities in Digital Marketing or Affiliate Marketing.

People found it interesting and saved the post for future reference.

Some of them followed me and a few of them commented on my post.

This is the marks are the first interaction in my marketing funnel.

Stage 3: Repeat Interaction

After people started interacting with Sham about his services, he made special offers to their potential customers.

People started watching his marketing ads and interacted with him to know more about his unique services.

He showed the ads to only those people who had interacted with him at least once in the past 2-3 months.

Stage 4: Optin ( Social Media / Non-Email)

social-media-stage-3After having a list of customers who could be his potential buyers,

He connected to his customers on social media and started building a following and connecting with them.

This leads us to our stage 4 in the marketing funnel which is subscribing to your account i.e. non-email optin to get notifications when you have a new post on your blog or feed.

Sham could update his costumers when he has new stock of clothes or new design patterns of clothes for his followers.

Stage 5: Email Optin

email-optin-stage-5 Bribe! Yes, you heard it right.

It’s not easy to get people to sign up and trust you.

In order for people to trust you, they need a gift that you can offer them for FREE.

For example, if you look at my Website. I have written an E-Book which gives you ways in which you can earn money online. You can download it here.

Sham too did the same thing. For the people who were a first-time buyer, he offered a free service to them by signing up online and applying a coupon code that was sent to their email.

Such a great way to give discounts by taking their email address in return, isn’t it?

Stage 6: Lead

lead-stage-6Segmenting your audience based on their profession, gender, age, etc.

Depending on the product/service you provide, separate your audience based on a particular attribute.

Sham separated his potential buyers and followers based on their gender as he had different services to provide for his female customers and male customers.

Then he can run a marketing campaign for Exclusive Kurti Design for Ladies and can only send emails/messages to female customers.

Stage 7: First-time Buyer

The potential buyer finally makes a transaction from you.

Sham is happy but the funnel doesn’t end here, right?

He needs to keep his customers consistently happy by offering his services and products.

This can be done by giving them a discounted price to his new customers so that they come again and buy from him.

Stage 8: Repeat Buyer

By now Sham had made people who brought is services frequently.

Stage 8 of the funnel is the Repeat buyer who comes back and buys your services again. The buyer buys again from you because

  • Trust is built during the first transaction.
  • He knows about your quality of products.
  • He is aware of the deliverability and durability of products/services.
  • He knows how you are a help to them.

Building a relationship with your customers in today’s world is very essential that many people in sales forget.

Stage 9: Brand Advocate

Brand Advocate? What does that mean?

A person who promotes or refers your services to other people.

You should go to Sham, he has some really unique fashionable designs in store!

Sham’s Store has the best offers for first-time buyers! Why not try them?

These were the people who bought from him frequently and started to love his brand.

They got connected to Sham’s Designs and had built authority in his field.

You see building a business is not that difficult in today’s world if you care for your customers.

Being able to take your customers to each stage of the funnel is the crucial part you should not miss.

With brands turning online, marketing funnel should be built for an online business as well as an offline business keeping in mind the online presence.

Getting your consumer from viewing your Facebook Page to coming to visiting the actual store should be your ultimate goal.

  2. In most sales funnel presentations you ll see a chart similar to the one above, but we think it s actually easier to understand the sales funnel when you don t use the buzz words for each stage. A better way to imagine a sales funnel is by using the ring method where prospects move from the outside of the circle to the inside of the circle as they become more familiar with your business.
